 Title: Teacher Development Clubs

Speaker: Keith O'Hare

Abstract:

This presentation looks into of the role of clubs in teacher development and how they can support teachers with resources, provide a platform for information sharing, and offer emotional support and networking opportunities. I will also present case studies of teachers clubs in Germany and UK as well as of a club that was set up in Beijing in 2004, called Teacher Development Forum and still runs today. In particular, I will present the involvement of Chinese school teachers and suggestion on how this model can work in the Chinese teaching context.Finally I will present some online networks and clubs that exist and show how they can be a useful source of development for teachers in China.
